The One Ring

1) Unlike the ''Lord of the Ring'' films, the one ring never appeared with inscriptions in ''The Hobbit'' so the gold ring seen in this films was always in it's original form.

2) Forty different variations have been made for different scenes including a small solid gold version which perfectly fits a hobbit's finger and a giant 2kg one that featured in extreme close-ups.





Gandalf's Costume

3) Unlike the ''Lord of the Rings'' version, Sir Ian McKellen asked a new silvery scarf for the Gandalf Costume which is more faithful to the descriptions in the Hobbit book.

Weapons (Dwarves)

4) The thirteen Dwarves had a huge number of weapons: Including all the variations it is about 500 weapons for Thorin and his company

5) Thorin's grandfather, Thror's crown, shield and sword all featured ravens, a reference to the sacred birds of the Lonely Mountain. 

Mirkwood Forest

6) During 1 year the crew was gathering huge amount of oak leaves from school yards and parks in New Zealand, bringing them back to the studios to be hung and dried for a year.
